1. About This Notice
This Children’s Privacy Notice (“Notice”) explains how I CHOOSE I AM! LLC (“We,” “Us,” or “Our”) collects, uses, shares, stores, and protects personal information about children in connection with the I Choose I AM! website at https://ichooseiam.com and its Android and iOS mobile applications (together, the “Platform”).
This is the “Children’s Privacy Notice” referred to in Our Terms of Service at https://ichooseiam.com/terms-of-service/ (the “Terms”), including Sections 4, 16, and 22, and it forms part of the Terms. Capitalized terms that are not defined here, such as Account Holder, Child Content, Core Event Use, Additional Use, Consent Record, Event, and Submission, have the meanings given in Schedule I of the Terms.
(a) Who is a “Child.” A Child is anyone under eighteen (18), or under the age of majority where they live if that age is higher. Laws such as the U.S. Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (“COPPA”) focus on children under 13, but We apply the protections in this Notice to every Child under 18, including teenagers.
(b) Who should read it. Parents and legal guardians who are considering including their own Child in an Event, and schools and other organizations that invite families to take part.
(c) How it fits with our other documents. Our Privacy Policy (https://ichooseiam.com/privacy-policy/) explains how we handle adults’ information. For a Child’s personal information, this Notice and Section 4 of the Terms apply. If any of Our documents differ, the provision that is more protective of the Child and of the parent’s rights prevails (Terms, Section 4.12).
(d) Your agreement. By opting in to Family Participation Features, a parent or guardian confirms they have read this Notice and consents, on behalf of each Child, to the collection and use of the Child’s personal information as described here (Terms, Section 4.3(a)(iii)).
2. Our Approach: Adults Only, Parent-Controlled
The Platform is directed to adults and parents, not to children. It works like this:
- Adult accounts only. Only people who are at least eighteen (18) can register. Our age screen asks for a date of birth in a neutral way, and registration is blocked if the date entered shows the person is under 18. We may take reasonable steps, such as a temporary block on the same device, to deter repeated attempts.
- No child accounts or social features. Children have no accounts, usernames, public profiles, messaging, or comment functions. The Platform is not a social network for children, and we do not communicate directly with children or ask them for personal information.
- Parent-controlled recording and upload. A parent or guardian records, reviews, and uploads a video of their own Child through the parent’s account, and approves each Submission separately before it is sent.
- Voluntary participation. A Child’s participation is voluntary and is never a condition of an adult’s use of the Platform. The parent must stop recording or withdraw the Submission if the Child wishes to stop.
- If a minor gets through. If we learn that an account was created or operated by a person under 18, We will suspend and terminate it and delete the associated personal information as required by law. If you believe this has happened, please contact support@ichooseiamgroup.com.
3. Information We Collect About Children
We collect personal information about a Child only from the Child’s parent or guardian, only with verifiable parental consent, and only what is reasonably necessary for the Child’s participation.
| Category | Examples | Where it comes from | Why We need it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Child Content | Video, voice or audio, image, and likeness in a Submission | Recorded and uploaded by the parent | To host, verify, judge, and count the Submission, and to issue a certificate |
| Child profile details | First name or nickname; age or year of birth | Entered by the parent | To confirm eligibility and keep consent records. A first name or initials appear on a certificate or elsewhere only if the parent has opted in |
| Consent Records | Parent and Child profile identifiers; the Submission and Event; the version of the consent text shown; options selected; date and time; supporting device and location metadata | Created when the parent approves | To show that valid consent was given and to meet legal obligations |
| Location, time, and device data | Date and time of each Submission; geolocation if the parent allows location permission; limited device and app information | Collected by the app when a Submission is made | To verify Submissions, prevent fraud, and keep the Platform secure (see Section 4) |
| Parent verification information | Evidence from the method used to confirm parental status, such as a payment-card check, signed form, or ID check | The parent (this is information about the parent, not the Child) | To confirm that the person giving consent is the Child’s parent or guardian |
| Requests and reports | Details in withdrawal, review, or deletion requests and in safety reports | The parent or the person reporting | To act on the request or report |
3.2 What We do not ask for
The Platform does not request a child’s full name, home address, telephone number, email address, full date of birth, school or class identifiers, or government identification. We do not ask Children for eligibility or identity documents (Terms, Section 4.9(d)). We do not collect more information than is reasonably necessary for a child to take part.
3.3 What parents can do to help
A video can reveal more than you intend. Under the Terms (Section 4.2(e)), please make sure that a Submission, its caption or description, and its audio do not include a Child’s full name, home address, telephone number, email address, date of birth, school or class identifiers, or precise location, unless the Platform expressly asks for it and you expressly approve it. Please review the entire video before approving it, and take care not to capture other children.
4. Location, Time, and Device Data
(a) What and why. To help confirm that a Submission was made when and where it is claimed to have been, the app records the date and time of each Submission and, if you grant location permission on your device, the geolocation tied to it, together with limited device and app information (Terms, Section 16).
(b) Your choice. When a parent records a Child, the location data relates to the Child’s location. By enabling location permission and approving a Submission, you consent to this collection. You may refuse or withdraw location permission in your device settings. A Submission without location data may not qualify for verification or a prize.
(c) Limited use. We use this data only to verify and audit Submissions, prevent fraud, keep the Platform secure, and comply with law. We do not use it for marketing or profiling. We do not display it publicly or put it in YouTube titles, descriptions, or other public metadata, and We strip location information from public versions of videos.
(d) Sharing and retention. We share it only with service providers that support the Services, with an independent verifier or record-keeping body in aggregated or de-identified form (unless you have approved otherwise), and where the law requires. We keep precise location data only as long as needed for verification and audit, and then delete it or reduce it to a less precise level, such as city or region.
5. How We Use a Child’s Information
5.1 Core Event Use
We use a Child’s personal information only for the purposes needed to run the Event (Terms, Section 4.5(b)):
- receiving, storing, and hosting the Submission on the Event Channel;
- verification, judging, and audit, including random sampling;
- inclusion in the Event’s record-attempt compilation or count;
- issuing digital trophies and certificates through the parent’s account; and
- safety, moderation, legal compliance, security, fraud prevention, keeping Consent Records, and responding to parent requests.
The approval screen describes the Core Event Use for the Event before you approve.
5.2 Additional Uses need your separate opt-in
Any use beyond Core Event Use is an Additional Use. Examples include marketing and promotion, educational modules or books, compilations unrelated to the Event, media or broadcast coverage, and sharing with a Creator or sponsor. Each requires a separate, specific, optional approval that is shown at the time of approval, describes the use, and is unchecked by default. Declining an Additional Use does not affect your Child’s participation or your eligibility.
5.3 What We will not do
- Use a Child’s personal information for behavioral or targeted advertising, or sell or share it for those purposes.
- Use Child Content in paid advertising, sponsor or brand endorsements, or on merchandise, or sell or license it to third parties for their own commercial use, without your separate, express written consent.
- Publicly display a Child’s full name. Where a name is shown, it is a first name or initials only, and only if you have opted in.
- Build profiles of Children, send marketing to Children, or use a Child’s name or image in RSVP marketing.
- Offer any payment, gift, or inducement to a Child to take part. A Child does not enter, win, or receive a prize in their own right; only adults (18+) can win or receive a cash prize, and any non-cash certificate or trophy is issued through the parent’s account.
6. Verifiable Parental Consent
We do not collect a Child’s personal information until a parent or guardian has given verifiable consent. Consent works in layers:
(a) Adult account. The parent registers and passes the age screen (Section 2).
(b) Family Participation Authorization. In account settings the parent opts in to Family Participation Features for each Child. The parent confirms that they are the Child’s parent or legal guardian with legal authority to give these permissions (including under any custody order or shared-custody arrangement and, where legally required, with the agreement of any other person who holds parental authority), that the information they provide is accurate and limited to what the Platform requests, and that they have read this Notice. This opt-in is not approval of any particular video.
(c) Verifying the parent. To confirm that the person giving consent is the Child’s parent or guardian, We use one or more methods reasonably calculated to do so under applicable law, such as a payment-card verification, a signed consent form, a video-conference check, a knowledge-based check, or government-issued ID verification. We may ask for more verification at any time. [Information collected only to verify parental status is used for that purpose and is deleted or minimized once verification is complete, except for the Consent Record.]
(d) Approval of every Submission. Before any video featuring a Child can be uploaded, the app shows an approval screen that identifies the Child (by profile), the Event, where the Submission will be sent or displayed, and the uses described in Section 5. You must affirmatively approve each Submission using unchecked boxes and a confirmation action. There are no pre-checked boxes, no blanket approvals, and no approval by silence. Approval covers one Submission only. A new approval is needed if the video is edited, re-recorded, resubmitted, used for a different Event, or proposed for a use that was not disclosed.
(e) Consent Records. For each approval We keep a Consent Record (see Section 3.1). You may ask for a copy of the Consent Records for your account.
(f) Yearly re-confirmation. At least once every twelve (12) months We may ask you to review and re-confirm your Family Participation authorizations, and We may suspend Family Participation Features for a Child until you do.
7. Private and Public Submissions; YouTube
(a) Private by default. The Event Specifications and the approval screen state whether a Submission will stay private (accessible only to Our authorized personnel and service providers for verification, judging, compilation, and audit) or will be published (viewable by the public, for example on YouTube). Unless the approval screen says publication will occur, a Submission containing Child Content is treated as private.
(b) YouTube. Approved Submissions are sent through the I Choose. I Am! channel to a YouTube channel that We operate, set to private, unlisted, or public as disclosed at approval. You do not need a YouTube account to take part, and We do not ask you to link your own channel. YouTube is operated by Google LLC, and data processed by YouTube is subject to Google’s and YouTube’s own terms and privacy policies. Where YouTube’s rules and COPPA require it, we designate content as “made for kids,” and we disable comments and other interactions where applicable.
(c) “Private” is not a guarantee. Private means access is restricted to the people We authorize through YouTube’s controls. We cannot promise absolute secrecy, for example in a security incident or under legal process.
(d) Public content carries risk. If a Submission is published, anyone may be able to view, copy, download, share, or capture it, and We cannot control copies that others make. Removing content from channels We control does not remove those copies. Content that depicts a Child may not be downloaded, reposted, or reused by others for any purpose other than a parent’s personal, private use of their own Child’s Submission (Terms, Section 8.4).
8. Who We Share Information With
We do not sell a Child’s personal information, and We do not share it for targeted advertising. We disclose it only as follows:
| Recipient | Purpose | Safeguards |
|---|---|---|
| Video-hosting provider (YouTube / Google LLC) | Hosting and delivering approved Submissions on the Event Channel | Written obligations; channel settings such as audience designation and disabled comments |
| Other service providers [e.g. cloud storage and infrastructure, security, parent-verification, and email delivery providers] | Operating, securing, and supporting the Services | Written obligations to protect the information and use it only for Us; access limited to what they need |
| Independent verifier or record-keeping body | Verifying a record claim | Aggregated or de-identified form unless the parent has approved otherwise |
We will obtain separate parental consent before disclosing a Child’s personal information to any other third party, except where the law permits otherwise. Inside our organization, access is limited to personnel with a need to know.
9. Advertising, Marketing, and Tracking
- No ads with Child Content. We do not show third-party advertising on or alongside Child Content, do not target advertising to Children, and do not use a Child’s personal information for advertising (Terms, Section 15.3). Advertisements or promotions that appear on the Platform are shown to adult users.
- No marketing to Children. Promotional communications go only to adult Account Holders, who can opt out at any time by using the link in the message, replying STOP to a text, or emailing support@ichooseiamgroup.com.
- No tracking of Children for advertising. Because Children have no accounts and do not use the Platform themselves, We do not use a Child’s information to build advertising profiles or follow them across other sites or services. [Confirm and describe any cookies, SDKs, analytics, or persistent identifiers used in the app or website, and their purposes.]
- Links. Third-party websites that the Platform links to have their own privacy practices. We do not direct such links to Children.
10. Schools, Groups, and Creators
(a) Schools and School Partners. Participation is voluntary for families. A School Partner may not require, grade, reward, or penalize a student for taking part or declining. A school’s or teacher’s permission is not a substitute for a parent’s Authorization, and school staff may not create accounts for students or upload content on their behalf. We do not need student rosters or records to run an Event, and We do not accept them unless it is lawful (including under FERPA and state student-privacy laws) and covered by a written agreement with Us. A school’s own recordings are governed by the school’s own media-release and student-privacy policies.
(b) Creators. Creators must follow Sections 4 and 10 of the Terms. They must not contact a Child, must not collect or receive a Child’s personal information other than through the Platform with the parent’s approval, and must not use or share Child Content or a Child’s name or image for promotion unless the parent has separately opted in. Child Content is not delivered to a Creator unless the parent approved that as an Additional Use.
(c) Live events. We do not publish identifiable images or recordings of a Child taken at a live event unless the parent has given Authorization. Children who attend must be accompanied and supervised by their parent, guardian, or an adult they designate, and Our personnel are instructed not to be alone with a Child or take custody of one.
11. Parental Rights and Choices
As a parent or guardian, you may, at any time:
- Review the personal information We hold about your Child, their Submissions, and the related Consent Records;
- Refuse further collection or use of your Child’s information;
- Withdraw your authorization for your Child, or for any individual Submission, without closing your account;
- Delete your Child’s information, or your whole account and all associated data; and
- Correct inaccurate information about your Child.
How to make a request
Use the in-app controls in Settings, or email support@ichooseiamgroup.com with the subject line “Children’s Privacy Request.” We will confirm your identity and your authority as parent or guardian before sharing or changing a Child’s information, and We will respond promptly and within any period set by applicable law.
What happens after you withdraw
| Step | What We do |
|---|---|
| Immediately | Stop collecting further information about the Child and stop using the Submission |
| Within [seven (7)] days | Remove the Submission from public display on channels We control and disable access to it |
| Within [thirty (30)] days | Delete it from active systems |
| Within [ninety (90)] days | Delete it from backups |
We may keep (i) the Consent Record and a record of the withdrawal, (ii) minimal non-identifying audit data such as participant counts and timestamps, and (iii) data We are legally required to preserve, such as under a legal hold or a mandatory report.
Limits. Withdrawal works going forward. It does not undo a lawful use that has already happened, such as a broadcast that has already aired, and it cannot reach copies made by third parties. We will make reasonable efforts to remove the content from materials We control (including re-editing compilations where technically feasible) and to ask partners who received it from Us to remove it. A withdrawn Submission may no longer count toward an Event total.
Refusing further collection may mean your Child can no longer take part in an Event, because We cannot run verification without the Submission. Your use of the Platform as an adult is not conditioned on a Child’s participation.
12. Data Retention and Deletion
We keep a Child’s personal information only as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes for which it was collected, and then delete it (Terms, Sections 4.7(e) and 22).
| Information | How long We keep it |
|---|---|
| Submissions and Child profile details | [Until withdrawal or deletion, after the Event closes and verification is complete, whichever is first], then remove the submission from public display on channels We control and disable access to it within [07] days, deleted from active systems within [30] days and from backups within [90] days |
| Precise location data | Only as long as needed for verification and audit, then deleted or reduced to city or region |
| Consent Records and withdrawal records | As long as needed to demonstrate compliance and meet legal obligations, then deleted or de-identified |
| Parent verification information | [Deleted or minimized once verification is complete, except for the Consent Record] |
| Non-identifying audit data (counts, timestamps) | Retained in a form that does not identify the Child |
| Data subject to a legal hold or mandatory report | For the period the law requires (for example, under 18 U.S.C. § 2258A) |
Account deletion. After a verified deletion request, We delete the account and its associated personal information, including Child Content, from active systems within [thirty (30)] days and from backups within [ninety (90)] days. Retained data is handled under the Privacy Policy and is not used for any other purpose.
13. Security
We protect Child Content and Consent Records with administrative, technical, and physical safeguards that are reasonable for the sensitivity of the data. These include encryption in transit and at rest where feasible, role-based access limited to personnel and service providers who need to know, access logging, and confidentiality obligations. No system is completely secure. If a security incident affects a Child’s information, We will notify affected Account Holders and the authorities as the law requires.
What parents can do. Keep your credentials secure, never share them with or let a minor use your account independently, turn on available security features, and tell us immediately at support@ichooseiamgroup.com if you suspect unauthorized access.
14. Child Safety, Reporting, and Removal
(a) Zero tolerance for child exploitation. Content that sexualizes, endangers, grooms, or exploits anyone under 18 is strictly prohibited, including content that is fictional, animated, or AI-generated. If We obtain actual knowledge of apparent child sexual exploitation, We report it to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) CyberTipline as required by 18 U.S.C. § 2258A, preserve the content and account information as the law requires, and cooperate with law enforcement. We may do this without notice to the account holder. If a child is in immediate danger, contact local emergency services.
(b) Reporting unauthorized or unsafe Child Content. Anyone, including a parent, a School Partner, or a member of the public, may report Child Content they believe is unauthorized or unsafe at support@ichooseiamgroup.com or through any in-app reporting tool. We treat these reports as a priority and may suspend access to the content while We review it.
(c) Non-consensual intimate imagery. Under the TAKE IT DOWN Act, a parent or guardian may ask Us to remove a non-consensual intimate visual depiction of a Child, including a digital forgery. Send a request to support@ichooseiamgroup.com with a signature, information to locate the content, a good-faith statement that it was published without consent, and contact details. We remove valid requests as soon as possible and no later than forty-eight (48) hours after receipt, and make reasonable efforts to remove known identical copies on channels We control (Terms, Section 10.13).
(d) Our right to remove. We may remove or disable any Child Content at any time for safety, legal, or policy reasons.
15. International Users and U.S. State Laws
The Platform is operated from the United States and is designed to align with U.S. law, including COPPA (15 U.S.C. §§ 6501–6506 and 16 C.F.R. Part 312) and the TAKE IT DOWN Act. Where the law of another place sets a higher age for a child’s digital consent, requires a particular way of obtaining parental consent, or gives additional rights, We apply the stricter requirement (Terms, Sections 4.7(f) and 29).
U.S. state laws. We do not sell or share a Child’s personal information, including for cross-context behavioral advertising, so state-law opt-out rights for sale or sharing are not triggered by a Child’s information. Parents in states with children’s or consumer privacy laws may still use the rights in Section 11.
International transfers. If you use the Platform outside the United States, your information and your Child’s may be transferred to and processed in the United States and other countries under the safeguards described in the Privacy Policy.
Complaints. You may also contact the data-protection or consumer-protection authority where you live, or, in the United States, the Federal Trade Commission.
16. Changes to This Notice
(a) We may update this Notice to reflect changes in law, regulation, or the Services, and will post the updated Notice with a new effective date. Earlier versions are available on request.
(b) If We change this Notice, the Family Participation Features, Core Event Use, any Additional Use, or the approval flow in a way that expands how a Child’s information is collected, used, or disclosed, We will notify you directly by email and in the app at least [thirty (30)] days before the change takes effect, explain it, and obtain your fresh affirmative approval before it applies to any Child Content or new collection.
(c) Changes operate prospectively only and never apply to a Submission you previously approved without new approval. Changes required by law, or that reduce the collection or use of a Child’s information, may take effect immediately.

Talking with Your Child (a few words you can read together) “A grown-up in our family is helping you take part in a fun music event. Only I put your video into the app, and I decide each time if it can be sent. We won’t share your last name, address, or school. If you ever want to stop, just tell me, and I can take your video down.” |
